EXHIBITOR: INTERNATIONAL INSURANCE & WORKERS' COMPENSATION COMPLIANCE FAQS
Because our upcoming 2027 event is taking place in The Bahamas, standard domestic U.S. insurance protections do not automatically apply. To ensure every exhibitor is properly insured and permitted on the trade show floor, please review these critical updates to our event insurance and compliance requirements.
- Why can’t I just submit my standard domestic U.S. Certificate of Insurance COI?
Standard U.S. Commercial General Liability (CGL) policies generally contain territorial limitations that end at the U.S. border. If a liability claim or bodily injury occurs within your exhibit booth space in The Bahamas, a domestic policy claim may not provide coverage or outright be denied unless it has been specifically endorsed for foreign operations.
Your Commercial General Liability policy must explicitly include a “Worldwide” or “Foreign” Territory Endorsement extending coverage to operations in The Bahamas.
In addition, many standard “worldwide” endorsements provide coverage only if a lawsuit is filed in a U.S. court, which Bahamian facilities will reject. Because claims arising in The Bahamas may be brought in a Bahamian court, the endorsement should expressly provide defense and indemnify for claims brought in foreign jurisdictions, including The Bahamas.
2. What is a Foreign Voluntary Workers’ Compensation (FVWC endorsement), and why is it required?
Your home-state Workers’ Compensation policy does not automatically extend coverage to employees travelling internationally for business operations. To upgrade the coverage your insurance must include a Foreign Voluntary Workers’ Compensation (FVWC) endorsement to your policy. This policy extends Workers’ Compensation benefits to employees working temporarily outside of the United States. This endorsement should include coverage for the following
- Workplace injuries sustained while working in The Bahamas.
- Emergency medical Treatment.
- Medical evacuation and repatriation expenses, if necessary.
- Other applicable statutory benefits available under the endorsement.
3. What if I am hiring local Bahamian laborers to set-up or tear down my booth?
If you contract local Bahamian laborers, decorators, or technicians or other service providers, those individuals generally cannot be covered under U.S. Workers’ Compensation policies.
The Bahamas operates under a mandatory statutory government system managed by the Bahamian National Insurance Board (NIB).
Accordingly
- Any local company or individual hired to perform work within your exhibit space must be properly registered with the Bahamian National Insurance Board (NIB) and current on all required NIB contributions.
- Before engaging any local contractor, exhibitors should obtain documentation confirming the contractor's compliance with applicable NIB requirements.
- If you hire an unregistered local worker and they are injured in your booth, your company will be held strictly and personally liable for all medical costs under Bahamian law.
4. How do I prove compliance to show host Golden Corral Corporation?
- For U.S. Exhibitor Staff: Ask your insurance broker to issue a current Certificate of Insurance (COI) issued to Golden Corral Corporation demonstrating:
- Commercial General Liability coverage
- Workers’ Compensation coverage
- Worldwide or Foreign Territory endorsements applicable to operations in The Bahamas
- Coverage that includes defense of claims brought in foreign jurisdictions, including The Bahamas
- For Local contractors: You must request and submit one of the following::
- National Insurance Board (NIB) Letter of Compliance or Tax Compliance Certificate (TCC)
Local contractors will not be permitted access to the trade show floor until required documentation is received.
Head's Up: Bahamian Tax Compliance Certificates (TCCs) are valid for only three (3) months from the date they are issued. To prevent delays or re-submission, please confirm that the certificate's issue date covers the full TS event dates before submitting your documentation. It is recommended that you submit on or after November 1, 2026.
5. Where do I submit the required documentation?
Instructions regarding the submission process for all required documentation and applicable deadlines will be included in the official Exhibit Kit message.
If you have questions regarding these insurance requirements prior to the release of the Exhibit Kit, please email Robin Jennings c/o [email protected].
