Bryan High Urban Academy & Omaha Public Schools Nutrition Services

Bryan High is an Omaha Public School that serves 1,800 students in a career-focused, "learning by doing" setting. Learn about the many ways they engage students in the field, such as through their Urban Agriculture College & Career Academy. Also, hear from Omaha Public Schools Nutrition Services Director, who started one of the oldest and most mature farm to school programs in the state.

City Sprouts

City Sprouts is an Omaha-based nonprofit organization that aims to use urban agriculture as a platform to develop equitable food systems, provide educational opportunities, and build community. Come tour their urban farm and learn about their soil health initiaitves and self-sustainable practices. Also learn about their multi-faceted, hands-on youth education and employment programming, including an middle school after-school program, and an Urban Farming Internship for young adults ages 16-21.

The Career Academy (TCA), Beyond School Bells Freight Farm

The Career Academy is a joint venture between Lincoln Public Schools and Southeast Community College that provides real world career pathways for nearly 500 Juniors and Seniors, including an Ag/Bioscience Pathway and a Culinary Pathway. Learn about their relationship with Beyond School Bells, a Nebraska based nonprofit organization focused on expanded learning opportunities, which lets students get hands-on experience with agricultural & culinary education in their unique Freight Farm on-site. Hear also from Lincoln Public Schools Nutrition Services Director about his recent efforts to expand local procurement across the district.

Green School Farms was founded to provide Lincoln, Nebraska area schools with fresh produce and has been successful not only at selling to schools, but also getting involved with ECEs and the broader farm to school movement statewide. Come hear more about their story, how they have expanded over the years, and tips & tricks for connecting directly with farms.

Community Action Partnership of Lancaster and Saunders Counties ("Community Action")

Community Action is an anti-poverty organization whose work is focused in 4 impact areas, two of them being Early Childhood Education and Hunger Relief & Healthy Food Access. Learn about how they've incorporated Farm to ECE in their Early Head Start and Head Start programs including gardens and nutrition education and how, ten years on, Farm to ECE is one of several initiatives that make up their Healthy Food Access programming.

Lone Tree Foods is a local foods distributor that has been operating in the Lincoln, NE area for 10 years. On a visit to their warehouse, learn about their distribution model and the Nebraska producers they work with to provide local foods to schools, grocery stores, restaurants, and other customers.

Council Bluffs School District - Thomas Jefferson High School

Council Bluffs Community School District in Council Bluffs, IA has a robust farm to school program centered in partnerships with food hubs and directly with farmers. Tour the school kitchen with their Nutrition Services Director, meet some of their local suppliers, and learn about their  "Diploma +1" accreditation program that brings in culinary professionals to show students that School Nutrition is a viable career option.

No More Empty Pots is a multi-faceted, grassroots organization focused on self-sufficiency, regional food security, and economic resilience, with their three core values at the center: education, stewardship, and sustainability. Visit their newly built state-of-the-art greenhouse and food hub facility, and learn more about the integral role they've played in the Nebraska farm to school movement through education, food distribution, advocacy and more.
