The ICARE Project aim is to empower IACUCs and their institutions to maintain highest quality animal care and use and to increase compliance with federal standards while minimizing regulatory burden. The Interagency Collaborative Animal Research Education (ICARE) Project https://olaw.nih.gov/education/icare-interagency uses active learning pedagogy which has been shown to increase effectiveness of adult education in factual and theoretical understanding of scientific and ethical issues by engaging the learner in activities that require the application of high-level concepts.

WHO CAN ATTEND

Participation is open to institutional animal care and use program trainers and IACUC administrators.  Institutions are encouraged to send two (2) or more trainers to participate in the workshop as that will facilitate implementation of active learning training at the institution.  

Colleagues from outside the US are welcome to attend the workshop, however the target audience is IACUC members and staff and animal program personnel from US institutions.  The curriculum presented is focused on US federal standards.

During this training workshop, participants will be coached and mentored by experienced facilitators who are also IACUC subject matter experts from the Federal, academic and private sectors.  The facilitators will help participants develop the skills and knowledge they need to develop and deliver active learning IACUC training.

The number of attendees at an ICARE TTI is limited to 36.  Space will be filled on a first come-first serve basis.  If the program is filled, you will have the option to add your name to the waitlist on the registration form.  Registrants should note that the ICARE training is intensive.  Read more about what to expect to the right

Participants should plan to arrive into Phoenix on Monday, June 3, 2019 and depart on or after Friday evening, June 7, 2019The Phoenix Airport (PHX) is 10 mintes from the hotel. 

WHAT TO EXPECT

The ICARE TTI course will be held on Tuesday-Friday, June 4-7, 2019, 8:00 AM - 6:30 PM (with optional group work in the evenings 7:30-10:00 PM Tues/Wed/Thu) and ending at 4:15 PM on Friday, June 7.

TTI participants work in facilitated breakout groups.  ICARE training is intensive.  Participants are fully engaged in content throughout the training and are not able to conduct other activities such as email, conference calls and laboratory or office management activities during the training day. 

WHY PHOENIX IN JUNE?

Average temperatures in Phoenix in June range between a high of 104°F and low of 77°F. "Why," you might wonder, "would they arrange a workshop in Phoenix in June?"  We work inside the hotel during the days and are free in the evenings when Phoenix is cooler and the dry air allows for a comfortable evening.  By holding our workshop during the offseason, we are able to offer a very comfortable hotel with good food at a bargain price.  We do hope you will join us in Phoenix!
