The ICARE Project aim is to empower IACUCs and their institutions to maintain highest quality animal care and use and to increase compliance with federal standards while minimizing regulatory burden. The Interagency Collaborative Animal Research Education (ICARE) Project https://olaw.nih.gov/education/icare-interagency uses active learning pedagogy which has been shown to increase effectiveness of adult education in factual and theoretical understanding of scientific and ethical issues by engaging the learner in activities that require the application of high-level concepts.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

The 2019 Advanced Train the Trainer Institute (ATTI) will be held on April 1, 2019 in Seattle, WA.  The ATTI offers advanced training in the use of active learning, backward design, and scientific teaching applied to IACUC training. The 2019 ATTI curriculum will support IACUC trainers, administrators, and compliance personnel that have attended a Train the Trainer Institute (TTI) in advancing their training skills so they may further empower institutions to reduce regulatory burden while increasing compliance with federal standards and improving humane animal care and use in biomedical research programs.
 
Participation in the ATTI is open to those who have completed one of the five ICARE TTIs held July, August, October 2016 in Bethesda, MD; April 2017 in Seattle, WA; and February 2018 in Atlanta, GA.  If you have not attended a TTI, please join us for this basic training before registering for an ATTI.

The agenda for the ICARE Advanced Train the Trainer (ATTI) includes:

Attendance at the ATTI is limited to 50 participants.  Space will be filled on a first come-first serve basis.  If the program is sold out, you will have the option to add your name to the waitlist on the registration form.

TRAVEL

Please do not purchase air travel tickets until you have received a confirmation of your registration.
 
Participants should plan to arrive into Seattle Airport on Sunday, March 31, 2019.  the program fee includes breakfast, lunch and dinner on Monday, April 1, 2019 as well as 1-way shuttle bus transportation on Monday evening to the Bellevue Hyatt Regency for those attending 2019 PRIM&R IACUC Conference.
 

WHAT TO EXPECT

The ICARE Advanced Train the Trainer will be held on Monday, April 1, 2019, with sessions from 8:00 AM - 6:30 PM.  Post session, participants will enjoy a networking dinner from 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM.  Following dinner, a shuttle bus will transfer those participants who wish to attend the 2019 PRIM&R IACUC Conference to the Bellevue Hyatt Regency at no additional cost.


The Cedarbrook Lodge offers a free shuttle from SeaTac Airport to the Lodge.

Breakfast, lunch, dinner and shuttle bus to Bellevue Hyatt Regency are included in the ATTI registration fee.

ICARE advanced training is intensive. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable, layered clothing and should plan to be engaged with workshop content during training sessions.  Participants may find time for other activities such as email, conference calls and laboratory or office management only during scheduled breaks and meals.
