The Interagency Collaborative Animal Research Education (ICARE) Project aims to empower IACUCs and their institutions to improve animal welfare and thus increase the quality of data collected, and increase compliance with federal standards while minimizing regulatory burden. ICARE Academies (IA) offer participants an understanding of research animal welfare and IACUC oversight issues through active learning and scientific teaching.

Refining IACUC Function (IA Refining)

THIS MEETING HAS BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL Tuesday - Friday, December 2-4, 2020
(originally scheduled for April 28-30, 2020)
Woolley's Classic Suites Hotel

IA Refining is a fast-paced 3-day workshop intended for those IACUC and animal program personnel who are familiar with federal animal welfare oversight standards.  This workshop provides participants with an understanding of animal welfare oversight concepts, enables them to correct misunderstandings of federal standards, and learn methods for more efficient and effective animal program and IACUC functioning.  Participants will be coached and mentored by experienced facilitators who are also IACUC subject matter experts from the federal, academic and private sectors.

See more about our IA faculty here

The IA Refining workshop will be held on Wednesday, December 2, 2020, 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM through Friday, December 4, 2020, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM (postponed from April 28-30, 2020).

Please see the schedule HERE (subject to change).

Participation is open to those involved in animal care and use programs, including IACUC members and staff, Institutional Officials, veterinarians, animal facilities personnel, administrators, consultants, and compliance and regulatory personnel.

Colleagues from outside the US are welcome to attend the workshop, however the target audience is IACUC members and staff and animal program personnel from US institutions.  The curriculum presented is focused on US federal standards.

The number of attendees is limited to 36.  Space will be filled on a first come-first serve basis.  If the program is filled, you will have the option to add your name to the waitlist on the registration form.  Registrants should note that the ICARE training is intensive.  Read more about what to expect.

Attendees will work in both large interactive sessions and small facilitated breakout groups.  In all of the sessions, attendees will engage in active learning activities such as interactive presentations, group work, and discussions. Active learning increases effectiveness of adult education in factual and theoretical understanding of scientific and ethical issues by engaging the learner in activities that require the application of high-level concepts.

ICARE training is intensive.  Participants are fully engaged in content throughout the training and are not able to conduct other activities such as email, conference calls and laboratory or office management activities during the training day.
